Sister taxa: Tumidocarcinus dentatus, Tumidocarcinus foersteri, Tumidocarcinus giganteus, Tumidocarcinus victoriensis
Type specimen: BMNH 59539, an exoskeleton. Its type locality is Wharekuri Creek, which is in a Duntroonian offshore shelf sandstone in the Kokoamu Greensand Formation of New Zealand.
