Belongs to Sthenurus according to Tedford 1966
Sister taxa: Sthenurus andersoni, Sthenurus murrayi, Sthenurus notabilis, Sthenurus stirlingi
Type specimen: SAM P13820, a skull (cranium crushed buy nearly complete). Its type locality is Unit B, which is in a Pleistocene terrestrial horizon in Australia.
