Sister taxa: Macrocnemus anatinus, Macrocnemus bassanii, Macrocnemus fuyuanensis
Type specimen: PIMUZ A/III 1467, a partial skeleton. Its type locality is Ducanfurgga, Davos, which is in a Fassanian marine shale in the Prosanto Formation of Switzerland.
