Belongs to Lycaenops according to D. S. Sigogneau-Russell 1989

Sister taxa: Lycaenops angusticeps, Lycaenops minor, Lycaenops quadrata, Lycaenops sollasi, Lycaenops tenuirostris

Type specimen: AMNH 2240, a skeleton (A compressed skull with lower jaw and most of the postcranial skeleton). Its type locality is Biesjiespoort, Victoria West, which is in a Wuchiapingian terrestrial horizon in South Africa.
