Type specimens:
- Protungulatum donnae: S.P.S.M62-2028, a mandible (left mandible with P2-M3).
- Protungulatum mckeeveri: UCMP 121782, a mandible. Its type locality is McKeever Ranch 1 (UCMP V72210), which is in a Pu1 coarse channel fill sandstone in the Fort Union Formation of Montana.
Ecology: ground dwelling omnivore
Distribution:
• Paleocene of Canada (2: Saskatchewan collections), United States (33: Colorado, Montana, Wyoming)
• Cretaceous of United States (1: Wyoming)
Total: 36 collections each including a single occurrence
