Sister taxa: Temnocyon altigenis, Temnocyon ferox, Temnocyon fingeruti, Temnocyon macrogenys, Temnocyon percussor, Temnocyon subferox

Type specimen: Amherst Coll. Mus. 22-684, a partial skeleton (imperfect skull, part of the lower jaw, and some 8 vertebrae). Its type locality is Fort Mitchell, which is in an Arikareean terrestrial horizon in Nebraska.

Ecology: ground dwelling carnivore

Distribution: found only at Fort Mitchell
