Sister taxa: Yunnanosaurus huangi, Yunnanosaurus youngi

Type specimen: IVPP V93, a partial skeleton. Its type locality is Huangchiatien, Lufeng, which is in a Sinemurian terrestrial horizon in the Lufeng Formation of China.
