Tetonius was named by Matthew (1915). It is not extant. It is the type genus of Tetoniidae.
It was assigned to Anaptomorphinae by Simpson (1940); to Tetoniina by Szalay (1976); to Omomyidae by Matthew (1915), McKenna and Bell (1997); and to Anaptomorphini by Gunnell and Rose (2002).
