Taxonomy
Halmaturus dryas was named by De Vis (1895). Its type specimen is QM F3582, a maxilla (maxillary fragment with P3, M2-4), and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Macropus dryas by Flannery and Archer (1984), Dawson and Flannery (1985).
