Taxonomy
Xenacanthus indicus was named by Jain (1980). Its type specimen is ISI P.47, a partial skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Maleri village (ISI), which is in a Carnian/Norian terrestrial horizon in the Maleri Formation of India.
