Taxonomy
Plecia winchesteri was named by Cockerell (1917). Its type specimen is USNM 62535, a wing, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Hay Gulch, which is in a Bridgerian lacustrine - large mudstone in the Green River Formation of Colorado.
