Taxonomy
Penthetria similkameena was named by Scudder (1879). Its type specimen is GSC 6172, an exoskeleton (male with wing attached), and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is 3 miles up North Fork of Similkameen River, which is in a Ypresian lacustrine shale/siltstone in the Allenby Formation of Canada.
It was recombined as Plecia similkameena by Scudder (1885), Scudder (1890) and Rice (1959).
