Geinitzia carpentieri was named by Zeuner (1937). Its type specimen is NHML In 36200, a forewing, and it is an impression. Its type locality is Dumbleton, Gloucestershire (Brodie coll.), which is in a Toarcian marine limestone in the United Kingdom.
