Taxonomy
Plecia woodruffi was named by Cockerell (1916). Its type specimen is USNM 61455, a wing, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Evacuation Creek, near Ute Station, which is in a Bridgerian lacustrine - large shale in the Green River Formation of Utah.
