Taxonomy
Protomyia oustaleti was named by Brongniart (1876). Its type specimen is MNHN-LP-R.06698, an exoskeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Chadrat, Auvergne, which is in a Rupelian lacustrine - large marl in France.
It was recombined as Penthetria oustaleti by Evenhuis (1994); it was recombined as Plecia oustaleti by Gee et al. (2001).
