Taxonomy
Vetelia puncta was named by Ameghino (1891) [Emended diagnosis.—Species with similar osteoderm size and ornamentation pattern than V. perforata and V. ghandii, but differing from them by the presence, in both fixed and mobile osteoderms, of numerous piliferous foramina along a main sulcus that delimitate the central figure. Small fora mina in the anterior and lateral margins of the osteoderms. Piliferous foramina of the posterior margin similar to the condition in V. ghandii, but larger and less numerous than in V. perforata (Barasoain et al. 2021).]. Its type specimen is MACN A 2139, an osteoderm (2 mobile and 2 fixed osteoderms), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Karaiken, which is in a Santacrucian terrestrial horizon in the Santa Cruz Formation of Argentina.
