Taxonomy
Plecia acourti was named by Cockerell (1921). Its type specimen is BMNH In.17098, an exoskeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Bembridge Marls (A'Court Smith collection), which is in a Priabonian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal lime mudstone in the Bouldnor Formation of the United Kingdom.
