Taxonomy
Embothrites simpsoni was named by Berry (1932). Its type specimen is Amer. Mus. No. B-4, a seed/fruit, and it is an impression. Its type locality is Cañadón Hondo, which is in an Eocene/Oligocene lacustrine claystone in the Sarmiento Formation of Argentina.
