Taxonomy
Protomyia proserpina was named by von Heyden and von Heyden (1865). Its type specimen is NHMUK In 58793, an exoskeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Rott (Krantz Bonn coll), which is in a MP 30 lacustrine - large shale in the Rott Formation of Germany.
It was recombined as Plecia proserpina by Statz (1943), Evenhuis (1994) and Skartveit and Wedmann (2021).
