Oxylobium pungens was named by Jordan (1997). It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is RPU 573, a cuticle. Its type locality is Regatta Point - Early Pleistocene, which is in a Pleistocene/Pleistocene lacustrine mudstone/sandstone in Australia.
