Taxonomy
Proconsul hamiltoni was named by Madden (1980). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Lothidok Hill, which is in an Oligocene terrestrial horizon in the Erageleit Formation of Kenya. It is the type species of Kamoyapithecus.
It was recombined as Kamoyapithecus hamiltoni by Leakey et al. (1995).
