Taxonomy

Beryciformes was named by Patterson (1964). It is extant.

It was assigned to Osteichthyes by Sepkoski (2002); to Euacanthopterygii by Forey et al. (2003); to Acanthopterygii by Nelson (2006); to Percomorpha by Nolf and Dockery (1990), Long (2011), Bannikov (2014); to Berycida by Nelson et al. (2016); and to Berycimorphaceae by Betancur et al. (2013), van der Laan (2019).

Synonyms

Beryx dalmaticus was named by Steindachner (1863).

It was considered a nomen dubium by Patterson (1964).
Beryx lesinensis was named by Bassani (1880).

It was synonymized subjectively with Beryx dalmaticus by Patterson (1964).
Beryx subovatus was named by Bassani (1882). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Lesina (K.K. Geologischen Reichsanstalt GBA collection), which is in a Cenomanian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal lime mudstone in the Starigrad Limestone Formation of Croatia.

It was considered a nomen dubium by Patterson (1964).
