It was assigned to Sciaenoidei by Fitch and Lavenberg (1983), Purdy et al. (2001); to Perciformes by Sepkoski (2002); to Sciaenidae by Hastings and Dooley (2017), Carnevale and Godfrey (2018); and to Sciaenidae by Cicimurri et al. (2022).
