It was assigned to Ophiacodontia by Kuhn (1946); to Pelycosauria by Langston (1965); to Ophiacodontia by Romer and Price (1940) and Kuhn (1966); to Caseamorpha by Kemp (1982); to Caseasauria by Reisz (1986); to Pelycosauria by Carroll (1988); and to Caseasauria by Maddin et al. (2008) and Brocklehurst et al. (2016).
