Cebupithecia was named by Stirton and Savage (1950). It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Cebupithecia sarmientoi. It is the type genus of Cebupithecinae.
It was assigned to Cebupithecinae by Hershkovitz (1974); to Atelidae by McKenna and Bell (1997); and to Pitheciini by Kay et al. (1998).
