Hibiscoxylon was named by Kräusel (1939). It is not extant. Its type is Hibiscoxylon niloticum.

It was assigned to Malvaceae by Kräusel (1939), Andrews (1970), Srivastava (1991).

Synonyms
  • Hibiscoxylon mohgaoense was named by Paradkar and Soman (1972). It is not extant. Its type locality is Mohgaon Kalan, which is in a Paleogene lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal horizon in the Deccan Intertrappean Formation of India.

    It was considered a nomen nudum by Srivastava (1991).
