Taxonomy
Hyaena salonicae was named by Andrews (1918). Its type specimen is NHML-DVT-M.11413 , a maxilla (right maxillary fragment with P2–P4), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Diavata, which is in a Miocene terrestrial horizon in Greece.
