Taxonomy
Geochelonini was named by Swingland and Klemens (1989). It is extant.
It was assigned to Geocheloninae by Swingland and Klemens (1989); to Testudininae by Vlachos (2021); and to Testudinidae by Vlachos et al. (2022), Pappa et al. (2023).
