Taxonomy
Panthera balamoides was named by Stinnesbeck et al. (2018). Its type specimen is CPC-2205, a limb element (Distal third of a right humerus), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is El Pit cenote, which is in a Pleistocene sinkhole carbonate in Mexico.
