Saiga was named by Gray (1843). It is extant.

It was assigned to Caprinae by Kurten and Anderson (1980); to Bovidae by Gray (1843), Carroll (1988); to Antilopinae by Agnarsson and May-Collado (2008); and to Antilopini by Grubb (2001), Calamari (2021).
