Taxonomy
Barbourofelis lovei was named by Baskin (1981). Its type locality is Love Bone Bed, which is in a Clarendonian marginal marine horizon in the Alachua Formation of Florida.

It was corrected as Barbourofelis loveorum by Hulbert (1992).
