Machairodus coloradensis tanneri was named by Martin and Schultz (1975). Its type specimen is USNM 26086, a mandible (Right ramus with i1-3 alv., /c rt., p3-m1 broken), and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Machairodus tanneri by Martin (1998).
