Smilodectes gracilis

Taxonomy
Hyopsodus gracilis was named by Marsh (1871). Its type specimen is YPM 11800, a mandible (anterior part of a left mandibular ramus containing p4, m1, and a portion of p3), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Grizzly Buttes, which is in a Bridgerian terrestrial horizon in the Bridger Formation of Wyoming.

It was recombined as Notharctus gracilis by Cope (1872), Osborn (1902), Troxell (1926), Robinson (1957); it was recombined as Smilodectes gracilis by Wortman (1903), Matthew (1909), Gazin (1958), Gazin (1968), Gazin (1976), Gingerich (1979), Eaton (1982).
