It was assigned to Elephantoidea by McKenna and Bell (1997); to Gomphotheriidae by Sanders and Miller (2002), Shoshani and Tassy (2005), Tsoukala et al. (2007), Sanders et al. (2010); and to Proboscidea by Mothé et al. (2016).
