Taxonomy
Cynodictis gracilis was named by Filhol (1874). It is not extant. Its type locality is Aubrelong 1, which is in an Oligocene fissure fill phosphorite/claystone in France.
It was recombined as Cynodon gracilis by Filhol (1876); it was recombined as Cynotherium gracilis by Trouessart (1898); it was recombined as Aymardia gracilis by Trouessart (1904); it was recombined as Amphicynodon gracilis by Cirot and de Bonis (1992).
