Taxonomy
Glyptosaurinae was named by Marsh (1872). Its type is Glyptosaurus. It was considered monophyletic by Sullivan (1986).
It was synonymized subjectively with Anguidae by Hay (1902); it was synonymized subjectively with Placosauridae by Kuhn (1946).
It was assigned to Anguinidae by McDowell and Bogert (1954); and to Anguidae by Kuhn (1966), Estes (1983), Sullivan (1986), Conrad (2004), Smith (2006), Stocker and Kirk (2016).
It was synonymized subjectively with Anguidae by Hay (1902); it was synonymized subjectively with Placosauridae by Kuhn (1946).
