Xiphiacetus cristatus
Taxonomy
Priscodelphinus cristatus was named by Du Bus (1872). Its type specimen is IRSNB 3234-M.361, a partial skeleton (occipital condyles), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Anvers, which is in a Miocene/Pliocene marine horizon in Belgium. It is the type species of Priscodelphinus.
It was recombined as Eurhinodelphis cristatus by Abel (1902), Trouessart (1904), Abel (1905), Bianucci (1996), Bianucci and Landini (2002) and Lambert (2005); it was recombined as Xiphiacetus cristatus by Lambert (2005), Uhen et al. (2008), Hastings and Dooley (2017), Lambert and Goolaerts (2022) and Godfrey and Lambert (2023).
It was recombined as Eurhinodelphis cristatus by Abel (1902), Trouessart (1904), Abel (1905), Bianucci (1996), Bianucci and Landini (2002) and Lambert (2005); it was recombined as Xiphiacetus cristatus by Lambert (2005), Uhen et al. (2008), Hastings and Dooley (2017), Lambert and Goolaerts (2022) and Godfrey and Lambert (2023).
