It was assigned to Chelonia by Hendey (1981); to Testudinini by Swingland and Klemens (1989); to Testudinidae by Meylan and Auffenberg (1986), Frank and Ramus (1996), de la Fuente et al. (2014), van Dijk et al. (2014); and to Testudininae by Delfino et al. (2024).
