Leptomphalus was named by Yochelson (1956) [Sepkoski's age data: P Leon P Guad Sepkoski's reference number: 797,1130]. It is not extant.

It was reranked as Straparollus (Leptomphalus) by Knight et al. (1960).

It was assigned to Straparollus by Knight et al. (1960); to Euomphalidae by Morris and Cleevely (1981), Linsley and Kier (1984); to Euomphalina by Sepkoski (2002); and to Euomphalinae by Wagner (2023).
