It was reranked as Carcharias (Aprionodon) by Woodward (1889), Alessandri (1896), Bohm (1926); it was reranked as Carcharhinus (Aprionodon) by Hay (1902).

It was assigned to Carcharhinus by Hay (1902); to Carcharias by Woodward (1889), Alessandri (1896), Bohm (1926); to Galeidae by Jordan (1963); and to Carcharhinidae by White (1926), Case (1980), Thurmond and Jones (1981).
