Qatrania was named by Simons and Kay (1983). Its type is Qatrania wingi. It was considered monophyletic by Kay and Williams (1994), Beard et al. (2016).
It was assigned to Parapithecidae by Simons and Kay (1983), Seiffert et al. (2005); and to Qatraniinae by Kay and Williams (1994), Beard et al. (2016), Mattingly et al. (2021).
