Taxonomy
Altanius orlovi was named by Dashzeveg and McKenna (1977). Its type specimen is ASMPR GISPS coll. 7, no. 20-8, a mandible (incomplete dentary with P4M1-3), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Tsagan Khushu Quarry 1 [SMPE], which is in a Bumbanian terrestrial gravel in the Naran Bulak Formation of Mongolia. It is the type species of Altanius.
