Taxonomy
Macrotarsius macrorhysis was named by Beard et al. (1994). Its type specimen is IVPP V11025, a tooth (right [lower] P4), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Shanghuang Quarry, fissure D, which is in an Eocene fissure fill limestone in China.
