Taxonomy
Cardita alticostata was named by Conrad (1833) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; Alabama, Louisiana]. Its type specimen is ANSP 30562, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Venericardia alticostata by Conrad (1865), Dall (1903), Maury (1912), Harris (1919) and Anderson (1928); it was recombined as Venericardia (Claibornicardia) alticostata by Stenzel et al. (1957).
