Taxonomy
Chione semiplicata was named by Nomland (1917) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Miocene; Pacific coast, North America.]. Its type specimen is UCMP 11318, a valve, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UCMP loc. 2283, which is in a Miocene marine sandstone in the Santa Margarita Formation of California.
It was recombined as Venus (Chione) securis semiplicata by Grant and IV and Gale (1931); it was recombined as Chione (Gnidiella) semiplicata by Parker (1949); it was recombined as Chione (Chionopsis) semiplicata by Adegoke (1969).
