Myanmarpithecus yarshensis
Taxonomy
Myanmarpithecus yarshensis was named by Takai et al. (2001). Its type specimen is NMMP-KU 0001a, a maxilla (right maxillary fragments preserving P4-M3), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Yarshe, Pondaung Sandstone, which is in a Bartonian terrestrial sandstone/mudstone in the Pondaung Formation of Myanmar. It is the type species of Myanmarpithecus.
