Venus intapurpurea was named by Conrad (1849) [DISTRIBUTION: Pleistocene-Recent; Western Atlantic.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Chione intapurpurea by Richards (1962); it was recombined as Puberella intapurpurea by Hendy et al. (2008).
