Sciurodon descedens was named by Dehm (1950). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Wintershof-West, which is in a MN 3 fissure fill horizon in Germany.
It was recombined as Plesispermophilus descedens by Schmidt-Kittler and Vianey-Liaud (1979); it was recombined as Ansomys descendens by Hopkins (2004).
