Crassatella aquiana

Taxonomy
Crassatella aquiana was named by Clark (1895) [DISTRIBUTION: Paleocene-Eocene; Gulf Coastal Plain. DISTRIBUTION: Paleocene-Eocene; Gulf Coastal Plain.]. Its type specimen is USNM 207155, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Aquia Creek, which is in a Paleocene marine horizon in the Aquia Formation of Virginia.

It was recombined as Crassatellites aquianus by Clark and Martin (1901).

Synonyms
  • Crassatella sepulcollis was named by Harris (1896) [DISTRIBUTION: Paleocene-Eocene; Gulf Coastal Plain.]. Its type specimen is PRI 65, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Crassatella aquiana by Wingard (1993).
  • Crassatella halei was named by Harris (1897) [DISTRIBUTION: Paleocene-Eocene; Gulf Coastal Plain.]. Its type specimen is PRI 140, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.
