Izikoziphius was named by Bianucci et al. (2007).
It was assigned to Ziphiidae by Berta (2017) and Govender (2019); and to Ziphiinae by Bianucci et al. (2007), Lambert et al. (2009), Bianucci et al. (2010), Lambert et al. (2013), Marx et al. (2016), Lambert and Louwye (2016), Lambert et al. (2018) and Bianucci et al. (2024).
